U.S. Mint

The Denver Mint was established by Congress in 1862 and began producing coins in 1906. In 1972 it was added to the National Register of Historic Places and today it stores about 17.5% of the country's gold reserves. Today the mint produces about 40 million coins per day. That volume is important because Americans lose or save $100,000 in pennies each day.
